Course Description:

This course will deliver 14 Essential Skills for Patient Care and Management which is a practical, skills-based training program designed to strengthen the knowledge, confidence, and hands-on competencies of caregivers, healthcare assistants, nursing aides, patient care assistants, and individuals involved in home-based and hospital based patient care.

The course focuses on essential patient-care procedures commonly encountered in healthcare facilities and home-care settings. Participants are trained in areas such as infection prevention and control, wound care, nasogastric tube feeding, tracheostomy care, colostomy and ileostomy care, catheter care, diabetes monitoring, respiratory care, suctioning, specimen collection, burn management, pressure-ulcer care, bowel management, and IV placement and infusion care.

Course Objectives:

The main objective of the Health Care Essential Skills for Patient Care and Management course is to develop the practical knowledge, technical skills, confidence, and safety awareness needed to provide competent and compassionate support to patients in healthcare and home-care settings.

By the end of the course, participants should be able to:

  1. Apply proper infection prevention and control measures during patient-care procedures.
  2. Perform essential patient-care skills safely and correctly using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  3. Assist in the care and management of patients with wounds, catheters, NGT, tracheostomy, colostomy/ileostomy, respiratory conditions, diabetes, burns, and pressure ulcers.
  4. Demonstrate proper suctioning, specimen collection, bowel-care support, and other essential procedures.
  5. Apply appropriate principles related to IV placement and infusion care within the participant’s authorized scope of practice and under appropriate professional supervision.
  6. Recognize signs of complications or changes in a patient’s condition and report them promptly to the appropriate healthcare professional.
  7. Maintain patient safety, comfort, privacy, dignity, and respect throughout all care activities.
  8. Develop confidence and competence through supervised demonstrations, simulations, and return demonstrations.
  9. Use healthcare equipment and patient-care materials properly and safely.
  10. Strengthen readiness for work as a caregiver, nursing aide, health aide, patient care assistant, or other healthcare support worker.

 

Target Audience:

  • Filipinos and other nationalities;
  • Pre-requisite: Those who have certificates of training for Caregiving, Nursing Aide, Health Aide, Nursing Assistant, other health care related programs
  • 16 years old and above
  • At least high school graduate
  • Any individuals with different academic backgrounds with or without bachelor’s degree who would like to upskill or reskill, and those who want to change career path to healthcare.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS :

PRE-REQUISITE: Those who want to enroll this course must have certificates of training or experience in Caregiving, Nursing Aide, Health Aide, Nursing Assistant, other health care related programs.

Trainees or students wishing to enrol in this course qualification should possess the following requirements:

  • can communicate both in oral and written form;
  • physically and mentally fit;
  • with good moral character; and
  • can perform basic mathematical computation.
